Overcome our worries and fears

Published on 15 April 2020

We all go through times of doubt in our lives. We even encounter situations which are like obstacles on our faith journey.

Let us read Matthew 14: 28-31.

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
“Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

Peter is not sure of anything. The boat, already in the middle of the sea, was battered by the waves; because the wind was coming from an opposite direction. But he dares to leave the boat in the middle of the crisis to have the assurance of the presence of Jesus. He faces his fear with his eyes fixed on Jesus. He could have gone all the way hadn’t he started doubting again.

Friends, when we are going through storms in our life, know that Jesus is never far away.

Perhaps we should dare to get out of our boat which is tossed to trust Him fully. This is faith! Peter, despite everything, could have stayed in the boat. There was still some security, especially with his friends in the boat. He goes through uncertainty by trusting the Master. We too can face all the difficulties of life by deciding to move towards Jesus and having our eyes fixed on Him.
Walking on water is humanly impossible. But what is impossible for us is possible for God.

Genesis 18: 13-14 tells us:
“Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Will I really have a child, now that I am old?’ Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”

This question is also asked to us my friends: Is there anything the Lord is unable to achieve in our life? Nothing is impossible for God. We only have to take a step of faith towards Him. We will then see how great and powerful God is.

Whatever situation we are in right now, remember that God loves us and wants to help us. Let’s never give up! Let’s take a step of faith towards God. We can trust Him. He doesn’t fail anyone and his Word is always fulfilled.

Personal action
This week, I identify and surrender my worries and fears to the risen Jesus.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, nothing is impossible for you. You even conquered death to free me from my sins and give me eternal life. I choose to trust you and not worry anymore. You are more powerful than the storm around me. Help me. Amen!
