The Trinity
The Presbyterians believe in one God who consists of three people: the father who creates all things, his son Jesus Christ who shared our lives and broke the bond of sin and death, and the Holy Spirit who comes to us in our lives to guide us in truth and faith.
The Bible
The Presbyterians believe in the Bible as the Word of God addressed to us today. In the scriptures (The Old and New Testaments) we believe a unique account of God’s human knowledge in his actions in the history of the people of Israel and the Church of Jesus Christ.
The Church
The Presbyterians believe that the Church is the body of Christ. Believers are the members of this body and no matter where they meet this body exists. Christ himself makes this body complete and alive by his presence. Thus, in the Presbyterian Church authority comes from the Body of Christ, that is, the Christian community, created by the Father and inspired by his Holy Spirit.
Baptism and the Lord’s Supper
The first step to becoming a disciple of Jesus is to believe that He is the Son of God and trust Him to save you from your sins, reconcile you with God and give you eternal life. Recognize Jesus in your heart and confess with your mouth that He is Lord and Savior. In doing so, you become a child of God and a member of the family of God’s believers.
The Presbyterian Church in Mauritius celebrates two sacraments, baptism and lord’s supper (holy communion), which Christ himself taught his disciples. We gladly welcome members of other Christian denominations to share these sacraments with us. We believe that there is no need to introduce other sacraments for the good reason that any action taken by the Christian community or by the faithful should be offered to God to be sanctified.
